Welcome to August’s Faith World Newsletter

“Changing the world with the Word of God”

Dear Faith World TV Family,

As we enter August, we are reminded that the life of faith holds celebration and intercession together. We rejoice when the Gospel is lifted high and lives are drawn towards Christ, and we stand faithfully in prayer with those facing hardship, danger or uncertainty.

This month brings encouraging signs from across the UK: thousands gathering to worship through gospel music, and growing numbers entering our cathedrals for services, prayer and moments of peace. These are reasons to thank God and to ask Him for an even greater awakening across our nation.

At the same time, reports from Nigeria remind us that many of our brothers and sisters continue to worship at great personal risk. Their courage calls us not to look away, but to stand with them as one Body in Christ.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” – Romans 12:12

May this edition encourage us to recognise what God is doing, to remain steadfast where there is need, and to believe that the light of Christ will continue to shine in every nation.

In this month’s newsletter, we reflect on the life of Anne Widdecombe and consider the challenges facing the Church in Nigeria.

A Tribute to Ann Widdecombe

Ann Widdecombe

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Conservative minister, broadcaster, and friend of Faith World TV, Ann Widdecombe, who died on 8th July at the age of 78.

It was a real privilege for us to interview Ann, a woman of conviction, clarity, and unwavering faith. Throughout her public life, she never shied away from speaking about her belief in Jesus Christ, standing firm on issues of conscience, truth, and freedom of expression.

Beyond her political career, Ann became a familiar face to many through her appearances on television, yet it was her boldness in faith that truly set her apart. She spoke openly about the growing challenges Christians face in expressing their beliefs, once remarking on the need for the return of true freedom of speech, a reflection of her deep concern for the direction of society.

Her return to public life in later years demonstrated both courage and commitment, driven by a desire to stand for what she believed was right.

Ann’s voice was distinctive, her presence impactful, and her faith evident, an inspiration to us all.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her. We pray that they would know God’s comfort and peace at this time.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23

Thousands Gather for London’s First Gospel Garden

Gospel Garden

London recently welcomed its very first Gospel Garden, drawing thousands of visitors for a celebration of faith, community, and creativity.

Designed to provide a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city, the garden features biblical imagery, reflective spaces, and beautiful flora inspired by scripture. Since opening its gates, it has become a vibrant hub where people from all walks of life can gather, reflect, and experience a moment of spiritual tranquility.

Organisers hoped the space would spark conversations about faith in a fresh and accessible way, and the response has been overwhelming, with queues of people eager to step inside and explore.

It is a wonderful reminder that the message of the Gospel continues to find creative and inspiring ways to reach our cities and touch hearts.

Cathedral Attendance Rebounds as Search for Meaning Grows

Across the UK, cathedrals and major churches are seeing a noticeable surge in attendance, reflecting a growing spiritual hunger in society.

Recent figures show rising numbers of visitors attending services, lighting candles, and seeking quiet spaces for prayer during the week. Many are finding solace within sacred walls amidst the pressures of modern life.

Church leaders have noted an influx of younger people and those who traditionally had no church background, all searching for permanence, peace, and truth in uncertain times.

This renewed engagement with historic places of worship highlights a deep underlying yearning for God, proving that cathedrals remain living, breathing centres of hope and spiritual refuge.

Churches Burned as Persecution Rises in Nigeria

While we celebrate growing expressions of faith here in the UK, we must also remember our brothers and sisters around the world who face immense hardship for the sake of Christ.

In Nigeria, the Church continues to endure severe persecution, violence, and insecurity. Believers in various regions gather for worship knowing the very real risk of attack, yet their commitment to Christ remains unwavering.

Reports of church burnings, kidnappings, and targeted violence against Christian communities remain heartbreakingly common. Despite this, congregations continue to meet, pray, and praise God with extraordinary courage.

The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12:26: “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it.”

As believers who enjoy freedom of worship, we have a duty not to look away. We must lift up the Church in Nigeria in persistent prayer, asking God for protection, justice, and supernatural strength for His people.
