Top 3 Must-Watch Christian Films For Movie Night

Who doesn’t love movie night? Your favourite people, plenty of popcorn, and of course one of the best films you can find.

Movie night is a great chance to chat and share your views, too, and the right film can be the perfect catalyst for starting lively conversation. It can be tricky to choose sometimes, so we’ve put together a list of our top three Christian films to make sure your next movie night is one to remember.

1. Samson (2018)

Let’s start with the blockbuster. Starring Rutger Hauer and Caitlin Leahy, Samson was released in early 2018. This epic drama follows events from the book of Judges, as our eponymous hero seeks to protect his people from the Philistines. A classic tale of love, revenge and difficult choices, we see Samson struggle to balance his commitment to God with his earthly passions.

If you like a Cecile B. DeMille style blockbuster, then this reworking of an old testament classic will fit the bill.

2. The Second Chance (2006)

Ethan Jenkins and Jake Sanders are two pastors from very different backgrounds forced to face their conflicting views when they’re thrown together in a tough urban ministry. The Second Chance addresses prejudice and pre-conceptions as well as showing a way to overcome the challenges of faith in a difficult environment, raising a mirror to the boundaries we place between life on the streets and the hope of sanctuary. Starring Micheal W. Smith and introducing Jeff Obafemi Carr, The Second Chance is a thought-provoking and ultimately uplifting account of modern faith.

3. The Hiding Place

Directed by James F. Collier, The Hiding Place is a classic tale of triumph and forgiveness. Set against the backdrop of WWII this film recounts the true story of sisters Corrie and Betsie ten Boom and their family. We follow the journey from working in their father’s watchmaking business, through Nazi occupation, to the horrors of concentration camp imprisonment. A vivid demonstration of Christianity in action, this film is dedicated to helping us understand the value of forgiveness, understanding and, above all, faith.

So there you have it, our top three Christian films for movie night. We’ve tried to include something for everyone. Whether you like your films to be on an epic scale like Samson, focused on the gritty realities of urban ministry, or full of the classic gravity of The Hiding Place, we’re sure your next movie night will be something special.
